Planning a Honeycomb Christmas menu (and getting ahead with batch cooking)

Planning a Honeycomb Christmas menu (and getting ahead with batch cooking)

If you’re hosting this year, a Honeycomb Christmas can be every bit as generous and festive as the one you grew up with. The secret is in the planning, so on the day you’re at the table with your family, not stuck at the stove.

Same tree, new decorations

Think of Christmas like a Christmas tree. The tree itself is the same every year, and it’s the decorations that make it feel special. Your Christmas menu works the same way: the tree is your everyday Honeycomb food (beans, lentils, wholegrains and vegetables), and the decorations are festive touches like a maple glaze, cranberries, fresh herbs, mango, cinnamon and a big jug of gravy.

Same tree, new decorations: the tree is everyday Honeycomb food, the decorations are cranberries, mango, herbs, spices and a glaze, and together they make a festive table that's special but still nourishing

Build your menu

  • One centrepiece: a chickpea or lentil loaf, a stuffed pumpkin or a sweet potato wellington.

  • Two hot sides: roast vegetables and potatoes, and a green vegetable.

  • Two or three summer salads: it’s December in Australia, so fresh and colourful is welcome.

  • A sauce: oil-free gravy makes everything feel like Christmas.

  • One or two desserts: a fruit crumble with custard, a pavlova or a fruit platter.

  • Festive drinks: sparkling water with fruit, or a cranberry and lime mocktail.

You’ll find all of these, plus a brunch buffet, in A Honeycomb Christmas recipe collection.
