Here’s something I say to everyone in clinic: it’s what you do most of the time that matters, not what you do some of the time. One big Christmas lunch doesn’t undo a year of good choices, and feeling guilty about it only makes it harder to get going again.
The GPS recalculates
It works a bit like the GPS in your car. When you take a wrong turn, the GPS doesn’t say “well, that’s it, you’ve ruined the whole trip”. It simply says “recalculating” and shows you the way back. That’s all you need to do after a big day: no punishment, no starving yourself, just the next good choice.

A gentle two-day reset
- Water first: a big glass on waking, and keep sipping. Hot weather and alcohol both dehydrate.
- A light, fresh day: fruit, a green smoothie or juice, big salads and a vegetable soup give your digestion a rest.
- Fibre is your friend: beans, lentils, oats and vegetables help everything move along again.
- Move gently: a long walk, a swim at the beach or some stretching.
- Early night: sleep is when your body does its best repair work.
- Then back to normal: your usual Honeycomb meals from day three.
